How it works

Set it up once. Then just drive.

Routava does its work in the background. You hear from it when it matters, a few kilometres before it matters.

    Add your car

    Type the plate the way it looks on your car. Routava knows how plates look in 46 countries, so it catches a typo before it matters.

  2. 02

    Routava asks the registers

    For each of the nine countries, Routava asks the official register, or an official reseller where there is no public register, whether your car has a valid vignette. Where nobody can say, it tells you "Not checked yet". It never guesses.

  3. 03

    Drive as usual

    No need to open the app. Your phone wakes Routava as you come near a border where your car has no vignette. It follows the road closely only there, so your battery barely notices.

    Warned in time

    Ten kilometres before the border along the road (or 5, or 3, your choice), Routava tells you out loud, on the lock screen, on your watch and on your car's screen, with the last exit before the border.

One car, the same answer everywhere.

Pick the car you are driving once. Your phone, your watch, your home screen and the car's own screen all show the same car and the same borders.

CarPlay. The country you are in, the two nearest borders and your alerts, readable at a glance. Switch cars, change the alert distance or mute the voice right from the car.

Routava needs to know where you are to warn you in time. That is exactly why your position never leaves your phone.

Your position never leaves the phone

The map of every border crossing is inside the app, so your phone works out how far the border is all by itself. Your location is never sent anywhere: not to us, not to anyone.

Your plate goes only where it must

To check a vignette, the plate and the country it is registered in go to routava.app, which asks a source for that country (its official register, or a vignette seller that queries it) and passes the answer back. We keep no plates and use them for nothing else. Privacy policy

No account, no tracking

No sign-up, no ads, no analytics in the app. This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from anyone else's servers, not even its fonts.

Does it work without mobile data?

The warnings do. The map of the borders lives on your phone, so Routava knows where the border is even with no signal at all. Only checking a vignette with a register needs a connection.

Will it drain my battery?

No. Far from a border your phone rests and Routava does nothing. Your phone wakes it only as you come close to a border where your car has no vignette, and only then does it follow the road closely.

Do I need CarPlay, Android Auto or a watch?

No. The phone alone is enough: it warns you out loud and on the lock screen. The car's screen and the watch are there if you have them.

What if a register cannot answer?

Then Routava keeps what it last knew and asks again later: a check that fails never takes away a vignette the register confirmed. Where it has never had an answer, it says "Not checked yet" and treats the country like one without a vignette, so you are warned rather than surprised. It never shows a vignette it could not confirm.

Do I have to check my vignette again?

No. A vignette the register confirmed stays in Routava until its last day, and it is not asked about again until its last week, when a renewal would show. Countries where your car has none are checked again every week, in case you bought one.

I have more than one car.

Add them all. Routava checks every one of them and warns about the one you are driving. In CarPlay it remembers which car goes with which head unit.

How much is the fine?

Routava shows the fine for each country in its own currency, or converted to yours, from the official sources. In Austria, for example, it can reach 3,000 EUR.
