Your data and Routava
Slovensky: Ochrana osobných údajov
In short
- Your position never leaves your phone. Routava works out the distance to a border on the phone itself.
- To check a vignette, the plate and the country it is registered in go to our server, which asks a source for that country and passes the answer back. We do not keep the plate.
- There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, in the app or on this website. The website sets no cookies.
- Your cars, their vignettes and your settings are stored only on your phone. Delete a car, or the app, and they are gone.
1. Who is responsible
The controller of personal data processed through the Routava app and the website routava.app is Viallo s. r. o., Šustekova 3697/49, 851 04 Bratislava – Petržalka, Slovakia, IČO 57 859 043, registered in the Commercial Register of the Municipal Court Bratislava III, Section: Sro, Insert No. 203877/B ("we", "us").
For anything about your data, write to hello@viallo.solutions. We have not appointed a data protection officer, as the law does not require one for what we do.
2. What stays on your phone
The following is processed only on your phone (and, where you use them, on your Apple Watch, CarPlay or Android Auto screen and the home screen widget, which the phone feeds directly). We cannot see it, and none of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
- Your position and movement. With your permission ("While using" or "Always"), the app uses your location to work out which border is ahead on the road you are on, how far away it is and whether you have crossed it. The map of border crossings and roads is part of the app. Precise location is used only near a border where one of your cars has no vignette; elsewhere the phone follows your position roughly or not at all.
- The place you last parked, so the app can tell when you drive off. Only the last one is kept.
- Your cars: plates, the countries they are registered in, names and makes you give them, the vignette answers and dates, and your reminders.
- Your settings and the protection log (a technical record of what the border watch did, shown under Settings, which you can look at and which stays on the phone).
- Alerts. Warnings are local notifications made on the phone; spoken alerts use the phone's own voices. The app does not use motion and fitness data, even though the phone lists the permission.
To delete this data, open a car and choose "Remove this car", or delete the app. The phone's backups may keep a copy as the phone's backup settings decide.
3. Checking a vignette
When you add a car, open it, ask for a check, or when the app checks again (after a vignette is bought, before a trip, and about once a week), the app sends to routava.app over an encrypted connection: the plate, the country it is registered in, and the country whose vignette is checked. A plate can be personal data where it can be linked to a person.
Our server passes the plate and its registration country to the source that can answer for that country (table below), and sends the answer back to your phone. The plate is held in the server's memory only while its check runs (seconds, or up to about 15 minutes for Hungary), so that the app can pick up an answer that takes long. It is not written to any database or file, and requests to the check service are not logged. For each check we keep, without the plate, when it ended, how long it took, which source answered and whether it could tell; the last 40 per country make up the public status page.
For Hungary the source is a form on the toll operator's website, which replies by e-mail to a mailbox of ours (hosted by WebSupport s. r. o., Slovakia). We read the reply, pass on the answer, and delete the e-mail.
| Country checked | Source that receives the plate |
|---|---|
| Slovakia | europamaut.com, a vignette seller's platform that queries the national register (NDS); if it fails, the official eznamka.sk |
| Czechia | The official e-vignette system edalnice.gov.cz (SFDI); if it fails, the seller dalnicka.cz |
| Hungary | The official e-autopalyamatrica.hu of Nemzeti Útdíjfizetési Szolgáltató Zrt. (NÚSZ) |
| Austria | digitale-vignette-online.at or europamaut.com, a vignette seller's platform that queries the ASFINAG register |
| Slovenia | digitale-vignette-slowenien.de or europamaut.com, the same seller's platform, querying DARS |
| Switzerland | digitale-vignette-schweiz.de or europamaut.com, the same seller's platform, querying the Swiss register (FOCBS) |
| Bulgaria | The official check.bgtoll.bg of the National Toll Administration |
| Romania, Moldova | Nobody: you enter the dates yourself, and nothing is sent |
Each source is responsible for what it does with the plate under its own privacy policy. The seller's platform runs on servers in the European Union; the Swiss register is in Switzerland, which the European Commission recognises as giving adequate protection.
Purpose and legal basis: telling you whether your car has a valid vignette, the service you ask for under our terms of use (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
4. This website
routava.app sets no cookies, has no analytics and loads nothing from anyone else's servers, fonts included. Like any web server, ours records each request for a page (IP address, time, address requested, browser) in a log that is kept for 14 days and then deleted, to keep the site running and secure (legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Requests to the check service, which carry plates, are not logged.
5. When you write to us
If you e-mail us, we use your address and your message to answer you (Article 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete the conversation when it is no longer needed, at the latest two years after the last message, unless the law asks us to keep it longer.
6. App stores and testing
You get the app from Apple's App Store or TestFlight, or from Google Play. Those companies process data about your download, updates and purchases under their own privacy policies. If you agree to share diagnostics with app developers in your phone's settings, Apple or Google may pass us crash reports and usage statistics that do not identify you. We use them only to fix faults.
The app's links to official vignette shops open the shop's website in your browser; what you enter there is between you and that shop.
7. Who helps us
- INTERNET CZ, a.s. (Forpsi), Czech Republic: the server that runs routava.app and the check service.
- WebSupport s. r. o., Slovakia: e-mail, including the mailbox for Hungary's replies.
Both process data only on our instructions and within the European Union. We do not sell or rent data to anyone.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- ask whether we process your data and get a copy (access),
- have wrong data corrected, or deleted ("right to be forgotten"),
- restrict processing, and object to processing based on our legitimate interest,
- receive your data in a portable form,
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Slovakia the Úrad na ochranu osobných údajov Slovenskej republiky, Hraničná 12, 820 07 Bratislava 27, dataprotection.gov.sk, or the authority where you live or work.
Write to hello@viallo.solutions. As we keep no plates and no accounts, we usually hold nothing about you beyond an e-mail conversation; what is on your phone you can see and delete yourself.
9. Everything else
We make no automated decisions about you and no profiles. The app is not meant for children. Connections between the app and our server are encrypted (HTTPS). If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with its date, and a significant change will be announced in the app.
